“I’m proposing… that you get me a cup of coffee”

“The Office” finale is on in approximately 3 hours and 28 minutes . Not that I’m counting or anything. I want to make some predictions, mostly because if I’m right I’ll get to say “I told you so”. And I so rarely get that kind of satisfaction in my everyday life. (If I’m wrong, this post will most likely be deleted at 10:01pm).

 

So…

• Andy’s leaving. Despite the fact that the episode is titled “Goodbye Toby”, I’m pretty sure he’ll be around to annoy Michael for years to come. The producers say someone’s leaving Dunder Mufflin tonight, and my money’s on Andy “Drew” Bernard. Why? We know there’s going to be an “Office” spin-off premiering this January after the Super Bowl, and in my opinion Andy’s the only character (other than the main 5) that could be a lead on his own show. I will be seriously depressed if anyone from the original Dunder Mifflin family leaves (remember- Andy’s the last survivor from the Stamford Branch). Plus, with the Nard Dog out of the way, perhaps we can hope for a Dwight/ Angela reunion?
• Jan is pregnant. With Hunter’sMichael’s baby. I lost count of how many vasectomies/ vasectomy reversals (is there a technical name for that?) Michael’s had, but I’m guessing the last one didn’t take. Despite the fact that this seems a little too “May sweeps-ish” for my tastes, I actually think Michael being a father will help the character evolve a little bit. I don’t think I’m alone in expressing my growing weariness with Michael’s continued over-the-top antics. They were funny for the first three (ehhhh… two and a half?) seasons, but at some point he’s going to start becoming unlikable. So please executive producers, don’t make me hate Special Agent Michael Scarn.
• Jim will propose. To Pam. I’m not exactly sure when it’ll happen, but hopefully it won’t be in the last 30 seconds of the show, forcing us to wait until September for her answer. I don’t think the producers would stoop so low, but you never know (um, remember when Michael and Dwight drove into the lake? I know- I try not to either). But I’ve been very happy with the way their relationship has gone this season, so I’m delightfully optimistic.

I Heart Bill Lawrence (and so should you!)

As you may have heard, “Scrubs” is moving to ABC next year, and not a moment too soon. You know how I feel about NBC’s treatment of this show (I mean, EIGHTEEN different time slots in 7 years? What the frak?), so hopefully it will be treated with the respect it deserves for its final season. Show creator Bill Lawrence gave an interview to TV Guide today and spoke frankly about NBC’s less than stellar treatment of the show, his excitement to move to ABC, and most interestingly, how the show is going back to its earlier “dramedy”-like roots. Personally, I have enormous respect for a showrunner who can admit that “this past season we were less than inspired comedically”.

This is my favorite excerpt from the interview:

They [NBC] didn’t want to do any kind of wrap-up?
Lawrence: Not only did they not want to do any kind of wrap-up, but they took an episode that was supposed to air in the middle of the season — the fairytale episode — and marketed it as a series finale. Which was bulls–t. It was never supposed to be a series finale, much less a season finale, and I think it ended up getting judged kind of harshly because of it. If it was just a regular episode that people had tuned into I think they would’ve thought it was cool and funny.

I Don’t Get It…

 …and I probably never will. But seriously, what the HELL is she wearing?!

And was I the only one that thought some of Sarah Jessica Parker’s outfits on “Sex and the City” were SO bizarre/hideous/ unflattering?? Also, I pretty much hated the character of Carrie. I liked the other three, but for some reason she just seemed so… whiney. And the whole I love Mr. Big/ I hate Mr. Big/ I love Aiden/ I hate Aiden/ I don’t want to marry Aiden/ I’m going to cheat on Aiden with Mr. Big/ I hate Mr. Big/ I miss Aiden/ I’m back with Aiden/ I’m breaking up with Aiden/ I love Mr. Big/ I can’t have Mr. Big/ I’m going to sleep with a Russian/ Yay! I’m back with Mr. Big was just too much for me to handle. Or keep track of. Though I seem to remember to it pretty clearly now. I blame insomnia and reruns on TBS.

I’m Giving It A Try

We had the idea of writing about things that we love and want to share with people. But now I want to share something new that I just started watching. I just started watching How I Met Your Mother. I will let you know that Britney Spears’ cameo had no influence on my decision to watch it.

I have enjoyed it so far. It has a great cast. Neil Patrick Harris is legendary (ha ha ha) as Barney.I am pretty sure that the lead actor played by Josh Radnor is the love child of Jimmy Fallon and Zach Braff. Also, Henry Thomas and John Cusack might be his grandparents. Alyson Hannigan from Buffy is breaking out her distinctive Willow role. Jason Segel from Freaks and Geeks and Judd Apatow movies is great as the law student Marshall.

My least favorite character is Robin, but I cant exactly say why.

Also, I am 83% percent sure that Bob Saget is the narrator.

I am in the middle of the second season. I watched the first season on Netflix and now I am trying to watch the other episodes…by other means. People in charge of Hulu…you should add all the episodes!

“You, you made me believe”

I think I would almost prefer if we never see the Adama/ Roslin romance up close. These little moments like the one at the end of last night’s episode are so pure and hopeful. It is way better than seeing anything more.

Also…where has Hera (or if you prefer HEE-RA) been all this time that mommy cylon and daddy ll helo j are off on the garbage ship with Kara? By the way, Kara looks so strung out on drugs. They should use her picture in middle school health classes.

*Jennie update- As much as I would love to see Adama and Roslin kiss, I totally agree with Jill about these little moments between them being so wonderful. This season we’ve seen a great evolution in their relationship, and whenever I see him reading to her in sick bay or her coming to see him in the middle of the night, I can’t help but smile and fall in love with this show all over again.

Magic Bullet and Scrubs and Dwangela, Oh My!

I fell asleep last night as soon as “Lost” was over… and woke up at 6am with all my clothes on, the lights on, and a commercial for “The Magic Bullet” playing on TV.  If you haven’t seen the infomercial for this wondrous kitchen appliance, you are totally missing out. It’s like a Super Infomercial…It has characters, plot developments, and sassy hosts that engage in witty repartee. This morning was probably the 56th time I’ve seen it, and every time I find something new to enjoy. I think my new dream in life is to make infomercials. And my second new dream is to create an Academy Awards equivalent for infomercials. And my third new dream to win “Best Infomercial”. And my forth dream is probably to end racism. But I digress. Anyway, I’ve had a couple people tell me that the Magic Bullet is actually a giant piece of crap. But that’s OK. At least they still have a kick-ass infomercial.

So Thursday night TV. I’ll give a quick breakdown of my initial reactions (and then I have a 20 page and a 10 page paper due Tuesday…so I should probably get started on those? I’m Ron Burgendy?) I loved Scrubs. I thought it was a solid episode, despite a few continuity problems (um… Kelso left the hospital like 3 weeks ago, Bill Lawrence. What the frak?). The sets were awesome, the acting (especially by John C. McGinley) was great, and the actual plot was the right balance of silly and serious (At its finest, “Scrubs” can mix silly and serious like no other show on television). I admit to getting a little choked up with that last shot of the “maiden” having her happily ever after and Cox telling Jordan, “Let’s just say… that’s the way I’m telling it”. The music that accompanied that scene was also great. And as for JD and Elliot? Well, if this was the series finale I’d be disappointed, but seeing as how the show’s moving to ABC next year (and thank God, because I’m not sure I could bear to watch NBC shit on it anymore), I’m reserving judgement.

Oh, “The Office”. What shall I do with you? I don’t think I laughed once before the first commercial break, and I remember my roommate and I wondering when “The Office” became “The Office: We Hate Jim and Pam”. Thankfully, the second part of the episode was better…not good enough to make it one of my favorites, but there were some great moments, like when Creed declared “Pumpkin’s out!” (I seriously love Creed), Jim and Pam kissed (I swooned a little, I’ll admit it), and when Dwight and Angela were alone in the office together. In fact, I think my favorite parts of this episode were the subtle, quiet scenes between Dwight and Angela. One of the things I miss most about the “Dwangela” romance is that we got to see a whole different side of Dwight K. Shrute: a more sensitive, emotional, heart-felt side of our favorite Assistant to theRegional Manager. While I wouldn’t trade Dwight’s “work” personality for a million Shrute Bucks (or 10 million Stanley Nickles), I miss seeing Dwight smile as Angela opens her Valentine’s Day gift (“And my animal deserves a lot of loving”) or when he told Angela at Phyllis’s wedding that she looked “as lovely as the Queen of England” (or later in the episode when they slow danced outside the reception hall). However delightfully quirky these two might be, there’s no doubt in my mind that Dwight and Angela go together like Angelina Jolie and the Third World. I hope this week was foreshadowing of a reunion for these two… I mean, come on- when Dwight sneezed and Angela said “bless you”, I’m pretty sure that was the writer’s way of telling us they’re meant to be.

And as for “Lost”… well I can’t quite wrap my brain around what happened just yet. Maybe Jill will want to talk about this episode. I’m off to write my papers… and to try to move the island. Thank for the advice, Jack’s not-quite-so-dead daddy:)

Also, a new Battlestar Galactica tonight! Big decisions ahead for Roslin and Starbuck!

Dear Executive Producers of “The Office”,

I love your show. I love that Dwight owns a beet farm, I love that Angela has a thing for babies dressed like adults, I love that Kevin has anal fissures. I love that Stanley grew up “on the ghetto”, that Michael grilled his foot on a George Foreman grill, and that Oscar’s mexicanity is what defines him, not his gayness. I love Bob Vance (Vance Refrigeration), Threat Level Midnight, and Creed Bratton.

And I love Jim and Pam. Not to wax poetically here, but in my mind, they are the heart and soul of the show. As much as I love Michael’s antics, Andy’s songs, and Meredith’s alcoholism, Jim and Pam are what make “The Office” so addicting. They’re real people: emotional, awkward, funny, desperate, and about a million things in between. They’re subtle, brilliant, honest…and would never smoke a clove cigarette at an Alicia Keys concert.

So after three years of Jim’s unrequited love, Pam’s reluctance to admit her true feelings, a season 2 finale that left me with as much hope as Eddie Murphy before the 2007 Oscars, a season 3 premiere that left me with as much disappointment as Eddie Murphy after the 2007 Oscars (still think “Norbit” was a good idea?), a Jim-Karen romance, a Pam-Roy engagement/break-up/reunion/break-up/macing, and a season 3 finale that had me dreaming about those three little words (“It’s a date”) for four months, we FINALLY get to see Jim and Pam together. As a couple. A loving couple. Together. Jim and Pam. A couple. For real. And although season 4 has been a little off (we’ll place some of the blame on the writer’s strike), I have delighted in seeing Jim and Pam together. As a couple. A loving couple. An ordinary, run-of-the-mill couple. No cinematic swoons, no sloppy kisses as the sun sets, no obligatory nudity. No dramatic fights with high-pitched screeching. No contrived plot twists where they actually turn out to be related (I’m looking at you, “Brothers and Sisters”). And I love it. I every every small acknowledgement of their growing relationship, every time they joke with each other, every time Jim admits he’s “in love” with italian food.

So PLEASE, writers and producers of “The Office”, LET JIM AND PAM BE. Let their romance unfold realistically. I’m not saying you can’t throw in a speed bump every now and then, but please don’t make them so high that it damages the muffler. Because I like the muffler the way it is. Too many TV shows are OBSESSED with getting people together/breaking people up/almost getting them back together/making them fight/getting them in unhappy realtionships with others/making each other jealous/and finally bringing them back together…at which point the spark has dimmed and the reunion seems contrived and is ultimately unfulfilling (I’m looking at you, “Friends”).

Believe me, I’m interested in Jim and Pam as a couple. I will ALWAYS be interested in Jim and Pam as a couple. I have faith in your writing abilities, and know you can come up with storylines that deal with their realtionship in a realistic and funny way. If I want over-dramatic, I’ll watch “Grey’s Anatomy”. But I don’t want over-dramatic. I want Jim and Pam. PB & J. Please don’t break my heart.

The Greatest Idea Ever!

Well not really, but probably pretty close.

Its funny that Jennie mentioned feeling guilty for skipping class that she is taking pass/fail.

Guess what I did today? …

Well usually I would feel a little guilty but I got something out of it. In my dream I was at a restaurant and I had to pick up an apron that was on the floor. So I thought I would make an apron for my class project!!

I know that this really has nothing to do with anything we should be talking about except I think my dream continued on with my involvement in solving a mystery surrounding the people in a British stage version of High School Musical.

Also, I woke up at 11. I turned on the TV and Gilmore Girls was on.

Sebastian Bach+Gilmore Girls= Genius.

Some Thursday morning thoughts…

• Why are Proactive commercials always so loud? Seriously… no matter what channel they’re on, they’re always 10 times louder than the show and the other commercials.
• I’m waiting for my 11:15am class to start, and even though I’m taking it Pass/Fail, I feel guilty if I skip a class. However, I think the main reason I go is so I can sit and do the Sudoku puzzle in the Daily Collegian each morning. I am seriously obsessed. I usually don’t even read the rest of the paper. If you need a Sudoku fix, http://www.websudoku.com/ is a great website.
• Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey got married. To each other. Out of all the weird celebrity news I’ve heard lately, this disturbes me the most. I have no idea why it seems SO WRONG… perhaps it’s because Nick Cannon looks freakish when he smiles.
• If you’re looking for a good movie, try out the documentary “This Film Is Not Yet Rated”. I saw it the other day for the second time, and it’s a really great look at the hypocrisy of the MPAA (the group that gives out movie ratings)
• Only 78 more days until “X-Files: I Want To Believe” hits theaters!! I’m probably more excited about this movie than graduating from college. And I’m ok with that.
• There’s a new “30 Rock”, “Scrubs”, “The Office”, and “Lost” tonight! I’m so excited. I wonder who will leaving “The Office” to star in their own spin-off? My money’s on Andy. He could probably carry his own show… plus, I’m really pulling for a Dwangela reunion.
